Well, and just like that, we are all living in a different world. COVID-19 is not only making people sick, with some actually dying. It is shutting down businesses, keeping kids home from school, emptying store shelves, and causing people to lose jobs and housing. Needless to say, the overseas trip that I wrote about in my previous post had to be cancelled. It’s hard to imagine taking that trip now.
When I last checked in here, a few months ago, I wanted to do a traditional “taking stock of the past year” kind of post, but instead ended up writing mostly about money. We were in a tough spot at the time, having lost our housemate shortly after taking out a second debt consolidation loan in order to finally get serious about paying down our credit cards. In my post, I wondered how we would make it work, but somehow had a feeling that, in one way or another, we would. Continue reading
I have much to write about (a rare occurrence) but little time (my constant refrain). I also continue to feel conflicted regarding how much to disclose on this blog as I have no idea who may be reading it. This makes it tough to be completely open about many aspects of our lives, and without such openness, I frankly don’t know whether it makes much sense to maintain this blog. It’s officially spring now, although for me spring actually came a long time ago for two reasons. Continue reading
Well, I’ve managed to let an entire month of 2015 slip by without posting. In my defense, it was a crazy busy month, with plenty of work deadlines and freelance projects. On top of that, P.’s dad is still staying with us, and it’s been hard to carve out some quiet time to sit down and write. Not that he would mind if I told him I needed to sit in front of the computer for a while; mostly it’s been me feeling like it would not be very nice to cut short our evening conversations, or just being busy with stuff like food shopping and cooking for the family, prepping for my classes, and, just last night, taxes. (We’re getting a refund – yay! The plan is to split it half and half between debt and savings, just as we’ve been doing with my freelance income.) Continue reading
